in footwear Manufacturing and role of ICT to overcome
these issues.

-
Prof. Ved Tripathi acted as
moderator and managed whole discussion which helped
the group to come to some concluding issues.
-
The points discussed were:
Quality issues in footwear industry
-
Training Modules are not available
in footwear sector.
-
There is information gap between
the design developed by designer and when it actually
comes to production process by worker. The specific
areas are:
-
In Clicking- components are
not cut properly leads to rejection, allowance
is not given as per specification while clicking.
In Skiving- either it is not marked or not done
according to marking, direction of skiving not
known, thickness of leather after skiving is not
known.
-
In Closing- type of needle
or thread not used according to specifications,
kind of eyelet used is not according to specifications.
In lasting - sole is not properly placed
-
There is gap between specification
from buyers and understanding of workers.
-
Workers are trained in traditional
methods so there is difference in level of understanding
for new techniques.
-
Sample is not developed properly
when available sole is not developed accurately.
-
Increase in overall cost of
product as there is rejection, so either they
are sold in domestic market or reduce value in
export market or loss of prestige.
Required/Observed interventions in footwear
industry
Prof. A.K. Srivastava, Institute of Applied Statistics
and Quality Management gave his insight on quality
issues in footwear industry and observed interventions.
-
Quality can’t be standardized
as it is changing due to innovation. Quality Management
System works on one principle Plan Do Control
Act (PDCA).
-
Exercises that can be included
in training module are
1.Market Analysis by using cross-sectional table
of Potentials of industry and customer requirements
2.Cause and effect diagram.
3.Discussion with workers.
4.Developing basic tools, advance tools and strategic
tools.
5.Developing quality control chart by supervisors.
6.Process mapping at worker level.
7.Social accountability.
8.Measurement analysis by ICT.
9.Data collection and Data analysis by ICT.
- This was followed by compilation by Prof. Ved
Tripathi.

by proposing further programmes to overcome quality
problems in footwear industry:
1.Developing IT solution in quality problem.
2.Using simple tools and training to overcome these
problems.

Review Training Programme - “Basic
Computer Appreciation for Footwear Designers – Agra
Footwear Cluster” conducted by Aadhar |
It began with review of course material and training methodology followed by discussion with trainees.
Points of Discussion with trainees:
The course module is useful in the daily activities for footwear designers.
Trainees mentioned that course duration is short as there is lot to learn in computers and this query was responded by an idea of having refreshment course sometime later.
Trainees aspire to have more advanced training in CAD-CAM.
A suggestion emerged to have visit to industry/institute where computerized working is in progress this was answered by planning a visit to Noida for five selected trainees.
Another suggestion emerged to have training for traders in internet use, which would help in improving footwear marketing strategy.
Trainees were puzzled for buying computer – can it be available in reasonable rates / installments. This was left as point to be discussed later may be contacting some computer vendor.
Points of Discussion with Aadhar:
Initial discussion on training course material and exercises given in training.
It was recommended to continue Training Programmes for further batches of footwear designers.
For the footwear designers who are not diploma holders training module would be provided in Hindi by Microsoft.
